Happy New Year!

We're excited to kick off the new decade with our valued corporate travelers.  Cheers to a year of productive, successful and safe trips!

Coronavirus Travel Precautions

Unfortunately, the new year is off to a tragic start as confirmed cases of the Wuhan coronavirus continues to increase.  As of now, the global count of cases stands at 622.  Cautions are being taken worldwide.  Australia, the UK and the US are beginning health screening at airports.  The current plan is for all travelers coming from Wuhan to be redirected to one of the five airports providing the screening: Chicago O-Hare, Hartsfield Jackson in Atlanta, John F. Kennedy in New York, Los Angeles International or San Francisco International.

The CDC has posted this as a "Watch - Level 1, Practice Usual Precautions" on its Travel Notice.

Congestion Frustration

The pick-up experience at several US airports has become increasingly chaotic due in part to congestion caused by ride-hailing companies.  To address this, many airports are mandating designated parking areas for such services.  Some pick-up spots are close to baggage claim areas, whereas others have a long trek to get to the designated area.  Travelers must walk or take a shuttle to "LAX-it," the LAX mandated pick up facility, until the airport's train becomes operational in 2023.  This has created quite a mess, resulting in some travelers opting to fly out of alternative airports.

Travel is Going Green

A major travel trend you will most certainly notice this year is  the reduction of single-use plastics.  In response to the UN Global Tourism Plastic Initiative, more hotel and other travel-related companies are committing to eliminate those tiny shampoo bottles, plastic cups and straws.  This will not affect your packing, but gone will be the trial-sized junk drawer in your bathroom!

Delta+Technology= Happy Traveler

Ed Bastian, Delta CEO, recently shared the company's plans to use technology to redefine consumer expectations.  "We see technology as a tool to further our mission of connecting people and creating opportunities."  The Fly Delta app will evolve into customers' digital travel concierge with the goal of making travel more relaxing by anticipating customer needs.  For example, Delta and Lyft are collaborating with plans for customers to be able to book a ride from their Delta app and pay for the ride using Delta  SkyMiles.

The new decade looks promising for Delta customers.
